Development Assistant for Miriam

Job Description: Development Assistant/Full Time

The Development Assistant is responsible for supporting the fundraising efforts of Miriam: The Learning

Disability Experts. The individual in this position must be detail-oriented, organized, and professional, and

have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Gift Tracking and Acknowledgement:

• Coordinate biannual fundraising mailings

• Enter donations (including tributes, dues, grants, matching gifts, and scholarship donations) into

database and generate acknowledgements in a timely manner

• Prepare and make bank deposits

• Maintain accuracy of donor database and run reports as needed

• Coordinate all events including fundraisers, luncheons, and board meetings

o Work with committees and/or Executive Director and Development Director to determine

venues, menus, and guest lists

o Oversee design and distribution of invitations, reminders, print and electronic/social media

marketing , and all other associated materials and correspondence

o Maintain guest and donation databases and generate acknowledgements as needed

General Office Responsibilities:

• Screen telephone calls, maintain appointment calendar, handle correspondence, and maintain filing

system for the Executive Director and Development Director

• Maintain postage meter, process incoming and outgoing mail daily, purchase postage

• Maintain office equipment as needed, handle service calls for cleaning and repair

• Maintain an inventory of supplies and orders

• Responsible for the organization and appearance of the office

• All other duties as determined by the Executive Director and Development Director

• Successful candidates will possess:

o A post secondary degree and a minimum of two years related experience in a nonprofit

o Excellent written and verbal communication skills

o Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) including experience in importing/exporting files and

o Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while paying close attention to detail

o Experience with Talisma (formally Donor2) or other donor database software greatly preferred
